Cancer Centre shows spirit of the season

Our Cancer Centre caregivers won last year’s Christmas Decoration Competition with their coordinated dance and outstanding decorations throughout the Unit.

Chair of the Competition, Director of Mission Colin Keogh said competition was fierce this year and many areas of the hospital put in a sterling effort.

“The Cancer Centre was chosen as the winner because it brought all the elements of the judging criteria to the fore, creating an uplifting message for patients, visitors and caregivers,” Colin said.

Nurse Manager of the Cancer Centre Marie Condon said Christmas can be a difficult time for many but for their patient group, the Centre decided to add some magic to make this Christmas extra special.

“It is with great privilege that our team provide a high of standard of care to our patients and their folk – we consider them part of our extended family,” Marie said.

“We decorated the department with their help and the lovely messages put on the boxes by patients really made our hearts swell.”

“We decided music and dancing would be a great way to sprinkle the magic dust on us all. Daily grooving practice (on the quiet) was required from Cancer Centre caregivers, pharmacy staff and clinical trial coordinators.”

“In the spirit of Christmas, we performed daily for our patients and their families and gave the team a serious lift in morale and fun.”
