The St John of God Murdoch Hospital redevelopment project was a winner for construction giant Brookfield Multiplex at the Master Builders Association (MBA) Western Australia Bankwest Excellence in Construction Awards 2015 and at the Australian Institute of Building awards.

The project won two awards in the categories of Best Refurbishment and Renovation Over $20M and the Best Health/Aged Care Building. Entries are judged by an independent panel comprising representatives of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects, Engineers Australia and Master Builders Association.

The project has also won the 2015 Australian Institute of Building WA Chapter’s Commercial Construction $100 Million Plus Award.

Chief Executive Officer John Fogarty congratulated Brookfield Multiplex on their achievements.

“Brookfield Multiplex has done outstanding work in creating a space that fulfils the needs of our patients and their families, staff and doctors,” Mr Fogarty said.

“The stunning results of the completed first stage of our Redevelopment Project, which was completed ahead of time and on budget, is testament to the high calibre of their projects.”

The first stage of the hospital’s $200+M redevelopment project has enabled the provision of care for almost 25 000 more patients per year, through added beds and theatres, area expansions and refurbishments. The hospital now has an extra wing and a new medical centre.

Stage two of the hospital Redevelopment Project, which is underway, includes refurbishment of the six original north wing wards, a new chapel and refurbishment of the hospital main foyer. This stage is expected to be completed in March 2017.
