Over 200 doctors, dignitaries and hospital staff came together to recognize the work of the 2014 Doctor of the Year Award recipient, orthopaedic surgeon Michael Anderson, and to celebrate a successful year at St John of God Murdoch Hospital.

The hospital’s annual doctor’s Christmas party was held in a marquee by the lake on the hospital grounds.

Hospital CEO John Fogarty said Mr Anderson was a very deserving recipient of the award.

“Mr Anderson performs a huge number of procedures at our hospital each week, yet delivers care with compassion and kindness,” said Mr Fogarty.

“He is well-respected and loved by his patients and colleagues.”

Mr Anderson, who specialises in hip and knee replacement surgery and arthroscopic knee surgery, joined St John of God Murdoch Hospital in 1994 and together with his colleagues, founded the Murdoch Orthopaedic Group.

He was born and raised in Melville. His mother was a nurse and father was a doctor who had a surgery in Melville.

2014 was a busy year for the hospital, with the completion of the first phase of its redevelopment project.
