Families connect with newborns online

inthehospital2A real-time video service at St John of God Murdoch Hospital is enabling new parents whose babies are still in the Special Care Nursery to see their baby after the mother has left hospital.

The Look@MyBaby Virtual Baby Visit™ service also allows for family and friends who live interstate or overseas to get a look at the new arrival.

Nurse Manager of St Mary’s, the hospital’s maternity ward, Sue Bradshaw said it is a valuable service that allows parents to connect with their babies when they are missing them.

“If a baby is requiring further care in the Special Care Nursery after the mother has gone home, being able to look online and see your baby in the middle of the night is a huge comfort,” said Ms Bradshaw.

“It is also especially wonderful for grandparents who would otherwise not be able to see the new addition to the family.”

The Look@MyBaby Virtual Baby Visit™ service has been offered to maternity patients since June 2010, but the extension of the service into the Special Care Nursery began in October last year.
